How to Choose the Right Fall Scent for Your Home

How to Choose the Right Fall Scent for Your Home

Fall is one of my favorite seasons for home fragrance, but choosing a fall scent can be harder than it sounds.

There are so many directions you can go. Warm spice. Crisp apple. Pumpkin. Earthy woods. And sometimes the scent that sounds the most “fall” is not actually the one you want filling your home every day.

The easiest way to choose is to think less about the name of the fragrance and more about how you want your home to feel.

Start with the mood you want to create.

If you want your home to feel warm and cozy

Look for scents with cinnamon, warm spice, vanilla, pumpkin, amber or soft woods.

These are the fragrances that feel right when the weather starts cooling down and evenings move indoors.

Warm Harvest from our Fall Retreat Collection fits here. It leans into the warmer, spiced side of fall and gives your home that familiar autumn feeling without needing to completely change your decor for the season.

If you like fresh, crisp fall scents

Not every fall fragrance needs to be deep or heavy.

If you prefer fresher scents throughout the year, look for apple, light woods, leaves or fragrances that remind you of cool outdoor air.

Crisp Morning was created for exactly that feeling.

It reminds me of those first cool mornings when you step outside and realize summer is officially behind you. The apple gives it that familiar fall note while keeping the fragrance fresh.

This type of scent works especially well if you love fall but do not usually gravitate toward sweet or heavily spiced candles.

If you prefer earthy and grounding scents

Some of the best fall fragrances are the ones that smell more like being outside than being in the kitchen.

Think leaves, woods, moss, amber and soft earthy notes.

Whispering Leaves is the earthy side of our Fall Retreat Collection.

It was inspired by that quieter part of fall. Walking through fallen leaves, cooler air, wooded trails and the shift in the season happening around you.

Earthier fragrances are a good choice for living rooms, bedrooms and spaces where you want something subtle and grounding.

If pumpkin is your fall tradition

For some people, fall simply does not feel like fall without pumpkin.

And I completely understand.

Heirloom Pumpkin is for the person who waits all year for pumpkin season to come back around.

Pumpkin fragrances bring an instant sense of comfort to a space and work especially well in kitchens, living rooms and anywhere your family tends to gather.

How to choose when you still cannot decide

If you are stuck between a few scents, think about the fragrances you already use in your home.

If you normally love fresh and clean scents, start with Crisp Morning.

If you gravitate toward warm and cozy fragrance, Warm Harvest or Heirloom Pumpkin will probably feel more like you.

If you prefer woodsy, earthy or less traditional fragrances, start with Whispering Leaves.

You do not have to choose the scent that sounds the most seasonal. Choose the one you will actually enjoy living with.

You can also use different fall scents in different parts of your home.

A warm or pumpkin fragrance can make the main living area feel cozy while something fresher or earthier works beautifully in a bedroom, entryway or home office.

A simple way to bring fall into your home

You do not need to completely redecorate your house when the season changes.

Sometimes switching the fragrance is enough.

That is one of the things I love most about scent. A familiar room can suddenly feel different just because the air smells like crisp apples, warm spice, pumpkin or fallen leaves.

Our Fall Retreat Collection was created around those different sides of autumn, from crisp mornings and wooded walks to the warm, comforting scents we associate with coming home.

Because the best fall scent is not necessarily the one everyone else is burning.

It is the one that makes your home feel the way you want it to feel this season.
